The signing of the Treaty of Trianon in 1920 gave rise to a number of immediate problems and concerns for Hungarians, not least of which were those linked to questions of watershed management in a rump state whose new borders cut across pre-Trianon watersheds. Drawing on newspaper reports, revisionist propaganda, and hydrological studies from the interwar period, this talk explores the hydrological arguments politicized by Hungarian geographers both internationally and domestically after World War I, focusing in particular on the ways in which hydrological science both intersected with, and diverged from, revisionist propaganda.
